THE 12 BAR BLUES BACKING TRACK!

THE 12 BAR BLUES
I am introducing different ways to learn the Blues pattern;
There are 5 different patterns here all using a 'key' like a map to get around the 12 bars.
Ex 4 is the hardest as you will be asked to play a riff.....
Ex 1 is easier - but please be careful not to over do the draws - learning maybe to have one beat rest! D D D (D) - the bracket here shows maybe you should take a breathe??
Ex 5 -is back to the beginning of our blues career! Draw and holding the note - again learn to take a breathe at the end of the bar..
Try to use the backing track above.
We will use this sheet for the next month of October!

ARTIST OF THE MONTH NOVEMBER 2022 - THE BEATLES
The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960, that comprised John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They are regarded as the most influential band of all time[1] and were integral to the development of 1960s counterculture and popular music's recognition as an art form.[2] Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock 'n' roll, their sound incorporated elements of classical music and traditional pop in innovative ways; the band later explored music styles ranging from folk and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock. As pioneers in recording, songwriting and artistic presentation, the Beatles revolutionised many aspects of the music industry and were often publicised as leaders of the era's youth and sociocultural movements.[3]

ARTIST OF THE MONTH : OCTOBER 2022
LITTLE WALTER

Little Walter was one of the major figures in postwar Chicago blues. Influenced by guitarists as well as by senior harmonica players, he brought a singular variety of phrasing to the blues harmonica. His solos were cunningly crafted, alternating riffs and flowing lines. He was a pioneer of playing a harmonica directly into a handheld microphone and developed expressive techniques to enhance his playing. Though his vocal range was small, his singing often emulated Waters’s style. His most popular song was “My Babe,” and his finest work included “Sad Hours,” “Off the Wall,” and “Can’t Hold Out Much Longer.” Little Walter was chosen for the inaugural class (1980) of the Blues Hall of Fame, and in 2008 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Little Walter, byname of Marion Walter Jacobs, (born May 1, 1930, Marksville, Louisiana, U.S.—died February 15, 1968, Chicago, Illinois), American blues singer and harmonica virtuoso who was one of the most influential harmonica improvisers of the late 20th century.
Raised on a Louisiana farm, Little Walter began playing harmonica in childhood, and by the time he was 12 he was playing for a living on New Orleansstreet corners and in clubs. In his teens he gradually worked northward, settling in Chicago about 1946; there he began recording in 1947 and played in Muddy Waters’s blues band (1948–52)
After Little Walter’s 1952 harmonica solo “Juke” became a popular song, he successfully led his own bands in Chicago and on tours. In the 1960s alcoholism curtailed his career, and he died following a street fight.

MAY
Sonny Boy Williamson, byname of John Lee Williamson, (born March 30, 1914, Jackson, Tennessee, U.S.—died June 1, 1948, Chicago, Illinois), American blues vocalist and the first influential harmonica virtuoso, a self-taught player who developed several technical innovations on his instrument.
Williamson traveled through Tennessee and Arkansas with mandolinist Yank Rachell and guitarist Sleepy John Estes, working in bars, on the streets, and at parties from the late 1920s until he settled in Chicago in 1934. Williamson began recording in 1937, using small bands composed of a guitar, string bass, and sometimes a piano. Characteristically, he alternated vocal phrases with harmonica phrases, built melodic solo choruses, and preferred fast “jump” tempos. Every aspect of his style, including his slight speech impediment, has been imitated. Working in Chicago blues clubs, Williamson prefigured the post-World War II electric blues; he performed with Muddy Waters, an adherent of electronic amplification, in 1943.

At the height of his popularity, Williamson was robbed and murdered while walking home from a blues bar.
Another blues singer and harmonica player,Alex, or Aleck, Miller, who was called Rice Miller, took Sonny Boy Williamson’s name, insisting that he had invented it. He performed, toured, and recorded under it from 1941, when he began playing on the popular King Biscuit Time radio broadcasts in Helena, Arkansas, until his death in 1965.
He also recorded for Chess Records and toured Europe, often with rock bands, and the second Sonny Boy Williamson arguably became better known than the first. Both were inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980.

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were an American folk and rock music duo. They were two childhood friends, who found fame in the 1960s. Their songs, including "Mrs. Robinson", "So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright", "The Sound of Silence", and "Bridge Over Troubled Water", all composed by Simon, are still popular to this day.
Their free concert in New York City's Central Park in 1981 was the biggest concert ever, with 500,000 people (about the same number as Woodstock)
This month we will learn songs and melodies on the diatonic harmonica.

He was born Saunders Terrell. His father, who was a farmer and musician, taught him the basics of harmonica playing. At the age of 16 he became blind. Because of this he was not able to work on the farm of his father. He started playing music. He developed a harmonica style which included also vocal parts and hollers. Also the imitation of trains was part of his style.
In 1938 he played in the Carnegie Hall during the first From Spirituals to Swing concert. The same year he recorded for the Library of Congress. Although he was famous as pure folk blues artist he also played jump blues in a band. From 1941 till 1982 he played together with the guitarist Brownie McGhee (1915-1996). He also played with other folk and blues legends like Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Pete Seeger, Champion Jack Dupree, Blind Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, Big Bill Broonzy amongst others.
In the 1980s he stopped due to age his career. He played only some concerts. He died in 1986. This year he also was inducted to the Blues Hall of Fame.
This month throughout April we will be getting to know this incredible musician and understand some of his tricks and riffs!
Come On Board!
